Wow! This year is seriously flying by! Here are some things we are currently working on in the classroom. Please never hesitate to click the remind tab at the top and reach out to me if you ever have any questions or concerns.

MATH:

I have been trying to post and send home the family letters as we progress through our math lessons. As you have probably noticed, we are moving into FRACTIONS! While fractions are very fun and exciting, they are also very challenging. Practicing at home is very important! With that being said, multiplication facts should be practiced at home to help with multiplication fluency. This means that students should be memorizing these quick facts 0-11.

WRITING:

In writing we are continuing to practice how to plan, draft, and revise a 5-paragraph essay. These essays are either a persuasive essay or an expository (informational) essay. Currently, we are working on a persuasive essay arguing which field trip we would rather go on based on reading two articles. Our goal for our students' writing in 3rd grade is for them to have an introduction, 3 body paragraphs (with reasons and supporting details from two texts), and a conclusion to wrap it all up. This time around, they are working more independently on this task, as it is something they are expected to do on the reading test in April.

READING:

In reading, students are working on building their stamina. They should be able to read for a long period of time without stopping and looking around, or talking. We have gotten a lot better with this, but it is something we will continue to refine all year. We are also working on learning from our books (nonfiction), and using passages to answer a response questions as well as essay questions.

Just as a reminder, your student should be reading every night at home, and practicing their multiplication facts to become more fluent. Thank you all for being amazing parents/guardians this year. I am so fortunate to have all of your students in my class. They make my job so enjoyable. :)
